23 Years, and Not Yet Murdered
Though if Sharon were to kill me, it would be well justified.
Happy 23rd anniversary, dear.

I was going to Maariv* at the local Kollel†, so that I could say Kaddish‡ for her.
Charlie came with me, because we studied some Gemara€ before services.
Charlie walked into the study area, and pushed the door open (it swings both ways) despite the large signs taped to it marked "Pull."
I said, "Midvale School for the Gifted," and Charlie gave me a blank look.
I had to remind him that it was a Gary Larson cartoon.
*Evening services.
†Community religious study center.
‡A memorial prayer, it is the 41st anniversary of her death.
€A companion work of the Mishna, together they constitute the Talmud.
We just had a workplace shooting in Maryland and Delaware yesterday.
3 dead and 6 wounded. Just another day at the office.
My wife and I were discussing this as I was getting ready to go to work, and I said, "My advice is always to shoot the boss, not your co-workers."
Sharon,* ever the optimist, asked a very wise question, "How about not shooting anyone."
Without thinking, I replied:
This is America, that's not an option. That was literally the first thought in my head, like some kind of like a Rorschach test.

Literally, we have a gas range.
I've decided to try to make Tahdig with chicken, an Iranian rice dish noted for its crusty bottom.
No formal recipe, I'm just taking notes from a number of recipes online, and playing around.
I'll see how it goes.

Our clothes dryer stopped heating last night, and today is laundry day.
So I am waiting for the skin cycle to end.
Dateline NBC is on the TVs here, which I find profoundly uninteresting.

Starting a new job at Tate Access Floors, a manufacturer of raised access floors.
As always, this is likely the last time that I will post about Tate, or my job, because blogging about your workplace is not a good way to stay at that workplace.
In any case, I'll be learning the ropes, and as such will have less time to blog for a while.

Natalie came across a french fry recipe online.
First, you pickle them in brine before you fry them up.
After a week or so, open the jar and rinse the fries off and then pat dry.
Fry up as you would normal fries, and add salt immediately after cooking is done, and put on paper towels to drain the oil.
Some notes:

This is the Old Fart Action Figure T-shirt.
I believe that this suits me very well.
I've been working on the whole, "Crotchety old fart," thing since I was about 12 years old.

There is a colony of feral cats in our neighborhood.
Today, I saw momcat, a tortoiseshell, and one of her kittens, a ginger tabby, who was nursing at the time.
I watched for a bit while momcat stared daggers at me.
They were likely part of RP's progeny.
Seriously cute.

The past week was not (and hasn't been for my adult life) a good time for me.
So, today, I decided to do something that I haven't ever done before culinarily, home pickling.
It gets my head into a better place.
I did the whole megillah, using Ball (mason type) jars, to create a pickle that does not need refrigeration.
It's a canned pickle.
I used Romanesco "Fractal" broccoli, but I am also going to do carrots, green beans, normal broccoli, zucchini, yellow squash, and Brussels sprouts, because I have a sh%$ load of pickling brine left over.
I used pickling spice, bay leaves, chipolte peppers, juniper berries, dill, salt, apple cider vinegar, and garlic in the brine, and in about 1/3 of the jars, I added some sugar for sweet pickles.

As we are waiting, he floats out some ideas, and I float out some ideas, including his pointing at his hat, and saying, "Chem Trails."Live in Obedient Fear, Citizen! And then he turned and walked away, giggling as the guy at the table said, "What did you say?".

I was coming home from the chiropractor today with Sharon* driving, and the song Don't Stand So Close To Me by the Police came on, and she turned up the volume.
I asked her why she liked this song, but hated the Pink Floyd song The Wall, which she hates for what she sees as its anti-teacher message. ("We don't need no education ……… Hey! Teacher, leave them kids alone")
I replied that she just turned up the volume on a song about an affair between a teacher and a student.
She said that she was unaware of this, and then she quickly changed the station.
I then sung:
Her friends are so jealousAnd then she elbowed me.
You know how bad girls get
Sometimes it's not so easy
To be the teacher's pet

I was driving to pick up the kids from a graduation party, and I got rear ended on the Outer Loop of the Baltimore Beltway.
I could drive home, and the EMTs took a look at me and took vitals, but this is a royal pain in the ass.
The rear bumper and lower rear window (It's a Prius) is trashed, and I was pushed into the truck in front of me.
On the bright side, the car was driveable, and I took it home over local streets.
Right now, I have a sore neck, a headache, and a bruise on my arm, and I am on hold with the insurance company. (The last one is most painful).
I will need to stay awake for the next few hours just to be safe.

Here is a picture of him doing the Dab post graduation:
There is a discussion on Imgur where I uploaded the picture, and some of the comments are very funny, if somewhat dismissive of Charlie's lichen growth style beard.

Note the syntax here.
The "F%$#" is an adjective that modifies "plants", not an adverb that modifies "hate".
When I come out in the morning, the windshield of my car has a thin layer of dust on it.
When I clean it off with the wipers, it turns out to be a yellow powder.
It's a thin layer of pollen, i.e. plant sperm, and it is making my life a living hell right now.
Thankfully Fexofenadine HCl (generic Allegra®) takes a bit of the edge off.

Spent most of today cleaning for Pesach (Passover).
It's a period of high anxiety for Sharon*, and I am doing my level best to be as supportive as possible.
Light blogging for a while.
BTW, anyone know a good way to split the Red Sea?
Have a Pesach joke:
Once upon a time in a far away land there lived a king who had a Jewish advisor. The king relied so much on the wisdom of his Jewish advisor that one day he decided to elevate him to head advisor. After it was announced, the other advisors objected. After all, it was bad enough just to sit in counsel with a Jew, but to allow one to 'lord it over them,' was just too much to bear. Being a compassionate ruler, the King agreed with them, and ordered the Jew to convert. What could the Jew do? One had to obey the King, and so he did.
As soon as the act was done, the Jew felt great remorse for this terrible decision. As days became weeks, his remorse turned to despondency, and as months passed, his mental depression took its toll on his physical health. He became weaker and weaker. Finally he could stand it no longer. His mind was made up. He burst in on the king and cried, "I was born a Jew and a Jew I must die. Do what you want with me, but I can no longer deny my faith." The King was very surprised. He had no idea that the Jew felt so strongly about it. "Well, if that is how you feel," he said, "then the other advisors will just have to learn to live with it. Your counsel is much too important to me to do without. Go and be a Jew again" he said.
The Jew felt elated. He hurried back home to tell the good news to his family. He felt the strength surge back into his body as he ran. Finally, he burst into the house and called out to his wife. "Rifka, Rifka, we can be Jews again, we can be Jews again." His wife glared back at him angrily and said, "You couldn't wait until after Passover?"

Except for the massaging necessary to convert the SMS texts, the only changes are to manually add the single MMS post, scroll down for Bibi's hair dye, which was a picture of the hair disaster, and bowdlerizing some swear words.
There are some exchanges that are a bit confusing, because things get a bit temporally dislocated because of the lag between sending and receiving a message and the time to actually thumb type/Swype a response.
Charlie and I worked to clarify this as much as possible.
I have put it after the break, because it would otherwise it would push everything else off the page.
Click thru, particularly if you are reading this through Facebook.
I think that you will find it amusing:
